Two Kashmir militants killed in separate encounters
Srinagar, May 17 (IBNS) Two militants have been killed in separate encounters with security forces in north and south Kashmir areas.
Reports said the latest incident took place in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday where security forces gunned down a militant in an overnight encounter.
According to reports, a fierce gunfight erupted in Pahlipora area of the district on Monday night after security forces laid a cordon around the village.
“When the cordon around the hiding militants closed in, they resorted to indiscriminate firing leading to an encounter that left one local Hizbul Mujahideen dead," an official sad.
The slain militant has been identified as Farooq Sheikh, a resident of Nazimpora area of the district.
An AK-47 rifle and some ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site.
In another encounter at Zoonareshi village under Kupwara district in north Kashmir, one millitant was killed during an overnight operation by the security forces, the army said.
Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from encounter site and a search operation is going on. The slain militant is yet to be identified.
