Rahul Dravid turns 43
Mumbai, Jan 11 (IBNS) Former Indian cricketer, Rahul Dravid on Monday celebrates his 43rd birthday.
The current coach of the Indian U19 boys team, Dravid was born in 1973 in Indore.
A right hand batsman, he is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers to have played the game.
He made his international debut in 1996 against Sri Lanka in a ODI match.
His Test debut came in the very year against England, also marking the debut of his compatriot and then the future Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.
Dravid is one of the two Indian cricketers, along with Sachin Tendulkar to score 10,000 or more runs in both Test and ODI cricket.
His slow defensive temperament, often suited for Test cricket, earned him the nickname The Wall. In the later part of his life he essayed many innings that bailed out his team from a certain crushing defeat.
Though he is known for his slow paced batting, incidentally, Dravid once held the record for the fastest half century by an Indian in an ODI after he smacked the KIwi bowlers and took just 22 balls to reach the feat.
With a total of 48 international hundreds, he ranks second in the list of most hundreds by an Indian after Sachin Tendulkar's 100 hundreds.
He is also the recipient of multiple awards, winning the Padma Shri in 2004.
