Modi visits Lucknow for the first time as PM today
Lucknow, Jan 22 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays his first visit to Lucknow after becoming Prime Minister on Friday.
This is for the first time that a prime minister in office would visit the Ambedkar Mahasabha premises.
Reports said Modi will be the chief guest at the sixth convocation of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU).
His visit comes amid a fierce criticism of his government faces over suicide of a Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula.
It is anticipated that he may break his silence on the suicide of Rohith in Hyderabad which has sucked into controversy the role of two of Modi's cabinet ministers.
PM Modi will pay homage at the Ambedkar Mahasabha office, which has an urn of the iconic leader's ashes. He is also the chief guest at the convocation of the central Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, where students dressed in "Lucknawi" kurta-pyjamas and specially designed jackets will receive certificates from him.
One of the highlights of the visit is a "Mann ki Baat (from the heart)" session in which the prime minister will sit on a charpoy and chat with 18 rickshaw pullers who will sit around him in moodas or traditional stools.
