Bengal polls: 45.88 percent people cast their vote till 11 a.m.
Kolkata, May 5 (IBNS) A turnout of 45.88 percent was recorded on Thursday in West Bengal till 11 a.m., where the sixth and final phase of Assembly polls is underway in 25 constituencies spread over two districts, reports said.
In this phase, polling is taking place in nine constituencies of Cooch Behar district and 16 in East Midnapore.
East Midnapore recorded a polling percentage of 48.02 percentage, while Cooch Behar had a percentage of 42.07.
More than 58 lakh people are eligible for voting at 6,774 polling stations across 25 constituencies in East Midnapore and Cooch Behar districts.
Around 9,776 people, who are part of the enclave, have been registered as voters. They are expected to exercise their franchise.
Security has been tightened across the two districts for polling.
361 companies of central forces assisted by a contingent of 12,000 state police personnel have been deployed in the districts.
The fight is between the TMC and Cong-Left alliance.
Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.
Counting of votes will take place on May 19.
