We will have women fighter pilot soon, says IAF chief Arup Raha
New Delhi, Oct 8 (IBNS) The Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to recruit women fighter pilots, confirmed Air Chief Arup Raha, on the 83rd Air Force Day on Thursday.
According to an NDTV report, Raha said, "We have women pilots flying transport aircraft and helicopters, we are now planning to induct them into the fighter stream to meet the aspirations of young women of India."
This comes as a big boost for women, who, in the past were not allowed in fighter squadrons.
Women who mainly serve in the administrative departments will witness a giant leap if the plan comes into action, making the Air Force one of the first units to have women in the battlefront.
