WB child trafficking: 2 Kolkata-based doctors held, arrests mount to 20
Kolkata, Nov 30 (IBNS): After being grilled for hours at West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters at Bhabani Bhaban, two doctors were booked by the state probe agency on Tuesday late night in connection with its ongoing probe into a Bengal-based child trafficking racket, officials said.
According to reports, the arrested doctors- Salt Lake's resident Dilip Ghosh and Behala Parnashree's resident Nityananda Biswas- were associated with College Street's Sree Krishna Nursing Home and South View Nursing Home in the Behala area respectively.
Those privately-run hospitals were earlier raided and sealed by CID.
Meanwhile, police on Tuesday night rescued three babies from a roadside bush at Chandpala area under Falta Police Station limits in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, reports said.
According to reports, these babies have been admitted to a government hospital at Diamond Harbour in stable condition.
"We have rescued three babies from Falta PS area and started inquiry into it to know if the incident has any link with the recently busted child trafficking racket," a senior official of South 24 Parganas district police told IBNS.
Earlier on Monday (Nov 21), CID busted a child trafficking racket, run by a private nursing home and an NGO in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, and rescued at least 32 babies, including newborns and toddlers.
The probe agency also nabbed 18 persons, including few doctors, old-age homes' owners, nursing homes' owners and NGO administrators, in connection with the case and they all are in CID custody.
CID officials said that the arrested doctors will be produced to a Basirhat court in North 24 Parganas on Wednesday, while several other doctors and privately owned nursing homes are under the probe agency's scanner as part of the ongoing investigation.
