Union Budget 2017: Document printing to start, FM Jaitley to attend Halwa ceremony
New Delhi, Jan 19 (IBNS): Printing of Union Budget 2017 documents will start on Thursday with 'Halwa' ceremony, media reported.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will take part in the ceremony, according to media reports.
A long-standing ritual, 'Halwa' (a sweetmeat) is prepared in a big 'kadhai' and served to the entire staff in the ministry.
Uniodn Budget 2017, which is scheduled for unveiling on Feb 1, will be the third full-fledged Budget of the present NDA government.
Tweeted the Union Finance Ministry on Thursday, "After Halwa Ceremony,more than 100 officials of Fin Ministry will stay in Budget Printing Press till FM @arunjaitley Budget Speech is over."
The "lock-in" which follows the 'Halwa Ceremony' is observed to maintain the secrecy of the budget preparation process, reported NDTV.
