Telengana to undergo mega-survey today
Hyderabad, Aug 19 (IBNS): Indias newly-born state Telengana is all set to take part in a mega-survey, priced at Rs.20 crore, on Tuesday. The survey was ordered by Telengana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao which would cover as many as 10 districts.
The survey is targeted to identify the state’s beneficiaries of welfare schemes. The KCR-led government, however, denied the fact that the survey would be used for identifying nativity or the ethnic profiling of people in the youngest Indian state.
As many as four lakh government employees and volunteers will participate in the drive going door-to-door to collate information. They will prepare the crucial database of residents living in the state.
All offices, schools and colleges have been asked to remain closed on Tuesday so that people can take part in the survey for the administartion.
At a meeting on Sunday by Governor ESL Narasimhan, Telengana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu agreed to check a surging tide of invective, allegations and mistrust over the sharing of resources such as water, power and revenue from Hyderabad.
Naidu said that he was okay with the survey but would challenge if the government uses 1956 as a cut-off date to determine nativity.
