Supreme Court of India criticises Central government over appointment of judges
New Delhi, Oct 28 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday came down heavily on the Union government for failing to appoint judges despite the apex court Collegium clearing a list of about 100 names, according to media reports.
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) said that a situation has arisen were courts cannot function because of lack of judges, reported NDTV.
The apex court was hearing a petition on Friday regarding the delay in appointment of judges.
SC had cleared the names of 35 judges for appointment in the Allahabad High Court in Jan and Aug but the Centre has not made any notification to the effect, media reported.
The CJI told the Centre that it cannot bring the institution to a grinding halt and their inaction is decimating the institution, reported NDTV.
