President, Vice President, Prime Minister condole loss of lives in Mecca crane crash
New Delhi, Sept 12 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the loss lives in the Mecca crane crash in which more than one hundred people, including two Indians, were killed and many injured.
In a message, the President conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of deceased and his prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He also called upon concerned authorities in India to extend every assistance possible to the families of the deceased Indian pilgrims and those injured in the incident.
Vice President Hamid Ansari said : "“I am deeply saddened to learn about the accident at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia that has resulted in the loss of a number of lives and injuries of Haj pilgrims. I understand that casualties include 10 Indian nationals. Relief and rescue operations are presently underway and every effort should be made to render all possible aid to the injured and the bereaved families. "
"I join the people of the country in conveying my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I wish speedy recovery to the injured persons.”
Offering his condolences Prime Minister Narendra Modi said : ""My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in the crane crash in Mecca. I wish the injured a quick recovery".
The death toll in the crane collapse incident in the Muslim holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabiaon Friday touched 107.
The mishap, which left several others injured, occurred when a huge red crane crashed into a part of the Grand Mosque.
Worshippers were present inside the mosque when the crane collapsed.
Strong winds and heavy rains reportedly caused the collapse of the crane.
The Indian government confirmed that 2 Indians have been killed while 15 other Indian nationals were injured in the mishap.
He called for every effort to render all possible aid to the injured and the bereaved families. Ansari conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes speedy recovery to the injured persons. Prime Minister Modi, in a tweet, said, "My thoughts & prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in the crane crash in Mecca. I wish the injured a quick recovery."
Over 100 people died when a massive construction crane crashed into Mecca's Grand Mosque on Friday with scores more injured, days before the annual Hajj pilgrimage. At least nine Indians were among the 80 people injured in the incident.
"Our Consulate in Jeddah is monitoring situation in Makkah following tragic accident. We have received reports that 9 Indian pilgrims are injured," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted yesterday.
