Mumbai: Woman arrested for running sex racket in Andheri
Mumbai, Jun 27 (IBNS): A woman in her mid-20's was arrested by the Versova police on Sunday, after they busted a sex racket run by the accused in her Andheri apartment, reports said.
Rekha Vaishnav, the accused, ran the racket in guise of a production company. She had worked as a model and acted in a couple of low budget films and lured struggling models into getting a role before forcing them into prostitution.
DS Patil, inspector from Versova police station was quoted by Mid Day as saying, "The arrested model has acted in few low budget movies as well, and she lured struggling models to her office by offering them roles in low budget movies, and after taking them into confidence, she trapped them in the prostitution racket."
"We have recovered more than 100 photos of different models, and most of them are from outside Mumbai. The arrested model was earning good money from them. Most businessmen and known faces from Bollywood were in touch with her, it has been found in the investigation," Patil added.
The police also rescued two models from her apartment.
The daily quoted a police officer as saying, "The girls were brought from Gujarat and Delhi. Vaishnav prepared them for nude photo shoots, after which she sent the photos to customers via WhatsApp. When the customer chose the girl, Vaishnav decided the amount to be paid."
The accused was booked under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) and produced before a court.
