Militant killed as Indian forces foil infiltration bid in Kashmir
Srinagar, June 20 (IBNS) One militants was killed as Indian security forces on Saturday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid at Machil sector in North Kashmirs Kupwara district.
“Around half a dozen infiltrators tried to sneak into Indian territory in the wee hours along Line of Control (LoC). The group of infiltrators was intercepted by the army in the dense forest area”, an army spokesman said.
After being challenged the infiltrators reportedly started indiscriminate firing on the forces. The army retaliated the attack leading to a fierce gunfight.
During the gunbattle an unidentified militant was killed, he said.
"The group was defeated in the heavy exchange of fire. They retreated after leaving behind one dead militant from whom one AK-47 and one pistol were recovered,'' the spokesman said, adding that the operation is still in progress.
