Mandasaur : Ten vehicles set ablaze as farmers' agitation continues, authorities declare curfew
Mandasaur, Madhya Pradesh, June 7 (IBNS) : The farmers protest in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur intensified on Wednesday, a day after five people were killed in firing, as agitators set on fire about ten vehicles, prompting authorities to clamp curfew in the district, reports said.
Mobile internet services were suspended in Mandasaur, Rattam and Neemuch districts since morning to check spread of rumours.
The protesting farmers also got into a scuffle with the District Collector and the Superintendent of police while demanding presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit the area to take stock of the situation.
On Tuesday, Gandhi had tweeted that the state Government is "at war" with the farmers.
Meanwhile, Mandsaur collector S K Singh confirmed death of five persons in Tuesday's firing and said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered. A protest rally by farmers turned violent on Tuesday when shots were fired, leaving four people killed, in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, media reports said.
Tuesday's incident took place when shots were fired during a farmers' agitation that turned violent.
State Home Minister Bhupendra Singh denied police having opened fire on the crowd at Mandsaur.
The Chief Minister has ordered a judicial probe into the incident.
He also announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the deceased and assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the injured.
