
Interfaith prayer held at Kolkata's Mother House
Kolkata: An interfaith prayer meeting with the theme `To end pandemic and build bridges of peace and to serve suffering humanity with love, compassion and understanding was held at the Mother House in the Missionaries of Charity, here on Monday.
The interfaith prayer meet was organised by the Commission for Dialogue, Archdiocese of Calcutta and representatives of Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, Ahmediyas were present. Besides the representatives, Sister Prema of the Missionaries of Charity others shared their respective religious perspectives.
The Interfaith prayer began with a Rajnikanto devotional song ‘ Tumi Nirmol koto’ by Paramita Chatterjee. Among those who shared their experiences of the pandemic with a religious perspective were Rev Martin Pakhare, CNI, Janab Abdul Aziz, Syed Irfan Sher, Brahmachari Divakar Chaitanya, Chinmoy Mission, Mr Tejinder Singh, Mrs Mridula Kothari, Mr Dinesh Chandra Vadera, Mr Raj Kumar (Hindu) , Abu Taher Mondal (Ahmedia).
Sr Leela, AC, Apostolic Carmel, Sr Prema, Superior General prayed for the suffering humanity. Mrs Rita Naha Roy Gomes sang a Hindi Bhajan. A Sikh devotional song was sung by Mr Manjit Singh.
Fr. Francis Sunil Rosario, Director, Commission for Dialogue, Archdiocese of Calcutta, said: “Suffering is common to all people irrespective of who we are and what faiths we hold. Praying is an essential part of our journeying together.
“We live in a pluralist society and no matter what faith we hold, we have some common concerns and we constantly try to alleviate pain and suffering through our allegiance to God and seeking his blessings. The pandemic, that has come to entire humanity today, is our cause of concern. We seek God’s blessings through our common prayer and build bridges of peace.”
