Indian evnoy called back as wife faces assault allegation
New Delhi, June 27 (IBNS) Two years after the Devayani Khobragada incident in the US another Indian diplomat finds himself in the centre of a serious controversy as Ravi Thapar, High Commissioner in New Zealand, has been asked to return to the country amid allegations that his wife assaulted a staff member.
Media reports quoted police as saying that a staff member at the Indian diplomatic mission in Wellington alleged that he was assaulted by the High Commissioner's wife.
However, no formal complaint has been lodged against the diplomat's wife Urmila Thapar.
Confirming the development, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup told CNN-IBN that Thapar was transferred back to the headquarters.
