India gears up to embrace Diwali
Kolkata, Nov 11 (IBNS) As the festive season comes to a near close, India on Wednesday prepares itself to revel in Diwali celebrations, the most colourful and exuberant festival in the country.
Diwali comes a day after Kali Puja, a predominant Hindu-Bengali celebration. Apart from the bright lights that makes houses and streets resplendent, another important aspect is the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
Though it is not mandatory, doors of many houses are kept open on this day. This is done to allow passage to the Goddess for her to visit every house and bless its inhabitants.
Diwali is incomplete without the greetings and as the festive fever grips the town, Prime Minister Narendra Modi twitted: "Wishing people in India & across the world a #HappyDiwali."
President Pranab Mukherjee wrote: "Warm greetings & good wishes to all my fellow countrymen in India and around the world on the joyous occasion of Diwali #PresidentMukherjee."
The Prez urged people to have a pollution free Diwali. "I urge all Indians to celebrate Diwali in a pollution free manner #PresidentMukherjee."
Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan wrote: "Divali ki shubhkamanyein ..."
Actress Priyanka Chopra wrote: "Diwali is a day to be surrounded by who you love.. For all those today with your loved ones and without... Wishing you a very happy diwali..."
Delhi CM Arvind Kerjiwal also wished the citizens a very happy Diwali.
Tollywood actor Prosenjit Chatterjee wrote: "Gd morning and Happy Diwali to all my friends..let the light brighten your life and make it brightest..God bless..."
