India celebrates Children's Day
Kolkata, Nov 14 (IBNS) India on Saturday celebrates the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday, also known as Children's Day.
With the global celebration slated for November 20 each year, India celebrates its part on November 14 in honour of Nehru who often cited that children should be nurtured with love and care.
Children's Day or Bal Diwas as it is popularly known in the country was first observed in 1964 and have continued since.
A day solely dedicated to the young minds, Children's Day often calls for a grand celebration in schools and other child service institutions, across the nation.
Google India too acknowledged the celebration by putting up a special Children's Day doodle.
The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee wrote: "My best wishes and blessings to all the children of this country on the occasion of Children’s Day #PresidentMukherjee."
The President in his tweet also mentioned the need of motivating the younger generation.
"We should encourage children to dream big about the future of our nation and explore their potential to the full #PresidentMukherjee."
Extending his greetings to the late Prime Minister, PM Modi wrote on twitter: "Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's life was spent in giving India freedom & leading India as the 1st PM. Tributes to him on his birth anniversary."
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee wrote: "Lots of love and blessings to all the children on the occasion of Children's Day."
