IAS office death: Sadananda Gowda to ask Rajnath for CBI probe
Bengaluru, Mar 18 (IBNS): Union Law Minister and BJP leader Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday said he will meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and ask for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of senior IAS officer D K Ravi in Bangalore.
"There is a great suspicion in the minds of the people of Karnataka. Neither the state government nor the investigation agencies can conduct a free, fair investigation," Gowda told media, who is a former chief minister of Karnataka.
Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has rejected the opposition's demand for a CBI probe.
"It will be a CID probe. The police are perfectly capable of investigating the matter. There is no requirement for a CBI inquiry," the CM told NDTV channel.
His rejection came even after protests erupted in Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday over the death of D.K. Ravi.
The Assembly was adjourned after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members rushed to the well of the house demanding a probe by the CBI into his death.
Earlier in the day, locals called for a shutdown in Karnataka's Kolar district.
Unruly scenes were also witnessed outside the Bengaluru hospital where Ravi's body was kept.
D.K. Ravi was found dead in his residence in Bangalore city on Monday.
Ravi, who took on the sand mafia in the district, had allegedly received threat calls before his death.
He was the Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement).
Bangalore Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi told reporters: "Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide."
No suicide note was found, the police said.
Ravi was a 2009 batch IAS officer.
