Hawalabaaz Congress barricading way of economic reforms : PM Modi
Bhopal, Sept 10 (IBNS) A day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi called Narendra Modi a 'hawabaaz', the Prime Minister hit back at her saying the 'hawalabaaz' are putting roadblocks in the country's growth.
Seeking to wedge a divide in the opposition, Modi on Thursday attacked the Congress, saying that the party is blocking the passage of the Goods and Services Tax Bill when all other parties are in favour of economic reforms.
"We had hoped Congress would work with us, help the Parliament enforce reforms but the party just doesn't want to work with us," the Prime Minister said while addressing BJP workers.
"They did not let Parliament work... the 'hawalabaaz' are troubled by law passed against black money."
He also alleged that Congress is avoiding dialogues on important social issues.
The Congress president had accused the Prime Minister of "hawaa baazi (making hollow promises)" while addressing top leaders of her party earlier this week. She had expressed concern that "the economy is on a downward slide while prices continue on their unrelenting rise."
"Every political group must leave no stone unturned in order to meet public expectations if they win and to introspect if they are defeated," he asserted. "We faced defeat in 1984. We introspected and tried to learn from that defeat. But we didn't criticise others and corrected our mistakes instead. Today, the nation has given us a majority in Lok Sabha," he said.
"There was a time when the BJP had only two MPs in Parliament. The then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi made fun of BJP in Parliament and we had to listen to it," Modi said.
