Happy to meet Gandhi family : Lalit Modi's tweets help BJP go counter offensive
New Delhi, June 26 (IBNS) Former IPL boss Lalit Modi, whose "connections" with Vasundhara Raje and Sushma Swaraj has kicked uproars pushing the ruling BJP to the corner has now tweeted about "meeting the Gandhi family" in London giving the ruling party a point to score over the opposition Congress which has been demanding resignation of the Rajasthan Chief Minister.
In a three-part tweet, the former Indian Premier League Commissioner said he was "happy to meet the Gandhi family in London" and that he had interacted with Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka and her husband Robert Vadra at a restaurant.
But in another tweet, he revealed that the meeting was last year: "If I remember correctly it was last year and the year before. Doubt either reported it to anyone. They were in power then."
Calling Modi's tweets "juvenile", Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: "I can say with full responsibility that neither Priyanka Gandhi nor Robert Vadra ever interacted with Lalit Modi socially. If you see somebody in a restaurant, it is not a crime."
The BJP said the Congress must explain why its leaders were in touch with the former IPL chief.
"We want to ask questions as to why the Gandhi family was constantly in touch with Lalit Modi. As to why yesterday also they were meeting Lalit Modi. It's thus obvious that none other than Sonia Gandhi can bring this to forefront," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.
The Congress on Wednesday made public a purported document saying Vasundhara Raje had signed in favour of former Modi and demanded her resignation.
Hitting out at the BJP on Thursday, Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Sachin Pilot said the ruling party "is in denial over wrongdoings" by its ministers and leaders and asked the party to make clear whether it sees Lalit Modi as a victim or a fugitive.
Modi is facing charges of indulging in corruption and money laundering during his stint as chief of the Indian Premier League.rt
However, making it clear that the party is behind Raje,Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Fridaysaid there is nobody tainted in the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"There is nobody who is tainted please," Jaitley said at the Delhi airport on Thursday evening on his return from the US.
