Govt.'s act on India's daughter has embarrassed the country: Shashi Tharoor
Thiruvantapuram, Mar 7(IBNS) Flaying the Narendra Modi government for asking Britain to stop telecasting "India's daughter," a documentary on the 2012 Delhi gang-rape, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said this embarrassed the country and the film should be watched by all.
"No, the ban was not justified. The government has embarrassed the country with its disgraceful conduct on this matter by sending Indian court order to foreign countries where democracy permits greater freedom of expression. This kind of thin skinned attitude is really disgraceful," Tharoor said.
The documentary, by British filmmaker Leslee Udwin has been banned by the Indian government as it includes interview of one of the convicts, Mukesh Singh, who holds women responsible for rapes.
However, BBC telecast the documentary in UK causing displeasure of the Indian government.
Tharoor said, "Everybody should see this film. Men should be made to see this film. Men should understand that these are the kind of attitudes that are lying behind rapes and sexual assaults."
"Until we confront the realities about our own country and until we show a mirror to ourselves, how are we going to change ourselves for the better?," he said.
