Govt ready for discussion on demonetisation : Parliamentary Affairs Minister
New Delhi, Nov 18 (IBNS) : After two days of ruckus and acrimony, the Government on Friday agreed for discussion in Parliament on demonetisation, an issue that has put the nation on boil, though both the Houses continued to witness uproar leading to multiple adjournents.
In the Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the Government is ready for the discussion.
"The Government is ready for discussion on demonetisation issue. Under section 193, a discussion on the issue can be conducted," he said.
However, even though the Opposition continued to raise a huge uproar, like it did on the previous two days and tried to push the Government to the wall, members of the ruling BJP turned equally aggressive on Friday, demanding an apology from the Leader of the Opposition and Congress member Ghulam Nabi Azad for a comment he had made on Thursday.
Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were interruptesd with protests being raised from Treasury Benches while senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the LoP had made objectionable remarks, which the people abhor.
"He said the Government killed more after demonetisation than terrorists did...Black money people are unhappy that PM is cleaning the system. But it seems you are also sullen," Naqvi said.
"If LoP wants to say something or clarify, he should get his members to keep quiet. The nation is angry about Azad's remarks," he said.
Amid repeated disruptions, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the third time till 2 30 pm.
In the Lok Sabha Meenakshi Lekhi of BJP condemned Azad's statement on linking the Uri terror attack casualties to the deaths during demonetisation issue.
His party colleague Gajendra Singh Shekhawat too raised voice against Azad's statement and demands an apology from him.
The Lok Sabha was finally adjrourned till Monday.
