Goa Trust vote : Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar wins
Panaji, Mar 17 (IBNS) : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar won the trust vote in the 40-seat assembly on Thursday getting 22 votes in his favour, reports said.
The BJP, which had won 13 seats in the elections, finishing second behind the Congress (17), managed to form Government by garnering support from the regional parties and independents.
The nine extra votes the Parrikar Government got supposedly came from MGP(3), Goa Forward (3) and Independents (3).
The Supreme Court, which rejected a Congress petiton challenging the BJP being invited to form Government, asked Parrikar to seek trust vote on Thursday to prove the party's majority on the floor of the House.
According to reports, Congress could only manage to muster 16 votes against Parrikar, with one of its legislators, Vishwajit Rane, walking out of the assembly before the vote.
