Goa minister asked to explain sexist remark by CM
Panaji, July 2 (IBNS) A Goa Minister who has made some sexist comments on women's dress code and warning them against wearing short attires or going to pubs has been asked to explain his remarks by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, according to media reports on Wednesday.
TV reports quoting sources said Parrikar has sought explanation from Goa's PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar who has said it is against Indian culture for women to go to pub or wear short dresses.
Speaking to CNN IBN channel, he had reiterated it: "I appeal to all women in Goa not to drink. It is not good for health also. We will crack down against pubs. Women wear short dresses and go to pubs, they go and drink. This is not good."
"Women from outside Goa come and visit pubs. Visiting pubs and drinking is against Goan culture," he said.
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar himself also faced flak by drawing an analogy of rape to doing business in India.
He said if someone commits rape, he has to face one inspector but for setting up industrial units one has to face many, a comparison that earned him the condemnation of women rights and other groups.
