Fresh Charges slapped on Masarat Alam can keep him in jail without trial
Srinagar, Apr 23 (IBNS) Kashmiri separatist leader Masarat Alam, who was arrested last week, has been given fresh charges under the Public Safety Act that may keep him jail for two years without trail.
Last week, the 45-year-old Hurriyat hardliner led a rally in Srinagar, where his supporters waved Pakistani flags and raised slogans.
He had organized the rally to welcome his ideological mentor Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
The centre put pressure on the Jammu and Kashmir government, led by its ally PDP, to take "immediate and stringent" action.
Alam was earlier booked for sedition and waging war against the country.
He is accused of organising stone-throwing protests in the Valley in 2010, during which more than 100 people died in police firing.
After the Mufti Mohammad Syed government of J & K released him last month, the country witnessed a huge uproar and a bitter row between PDP and BJP.
