
Dignity comes from self-suffiiency: Modi
Gandhinagar, Sept 17 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the new Swavalamban Abhiyan Yojana Gujarat's new pension scheme for the poor in Gandhinagar where he laid emphasis on the empowement and self-reliance of people.
Delivering a speech on the occasion, PM asserted that government policies must empower people.
Modi said, “Gujarat is an example of self-reliance. The Gujarat government must be congratulated for these efforts.”
He stressed on adequate storage facility for farmers.
Modi said, “We need our citizens to live a dignified life. If the poor cannot get dignity, the country cannot progress. Dignity comes from self-sufficiency.”
He added that the spirit of entrepreneurship among women is admirable.
Modi said, “We have seen this in the dairy sector in Gujarat.”
As Vishwakarma Puja is being celebrated throughout the nation on Wednesday, which also happens to be Modi’s 64th birthday, PM took the initiative to e-launch the scheme through laser torch light.
He said, “Today is Vishwakarma Puja Diwas. On this day we are commencing the 'Swavalamban Yojana'. I congratulate you all for this.”
On getting birthday wishes from all over, PM expressed gratefulness towards people. “I keep receiving your blessings and wishes on all 365 days. I am really grateful to you. It inspires me to do new things.”

It has been learnt, The scheme will be applicable to all citizens of 18 yrs to 55 yrs who join the New Pension System (NPS) administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).
Under the scheme, Government will contribute Rs 1000 per year to each NPS account opened in the year 2010-11 and for the next three years.
The benefit will be available only to persons who join the NPS with a minimum contribution of Rs 1,000 and maximum contribution of Rs 12,000 per annum.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben heaped praise on Modi by saying, “Narendra Modi has created a situation where we do not have to go begging to Delhi. We never had to tell him about Narmada issue.”
“A government must be for the poor,” she added.
About the scheme, she said poor people are the focus.
