Congress supports Andhra Pradesh's demand of special category status
New Delhi, Feb 9 (IBNS): With an aim to fasten the Opposition unity, the Congress has extended its support to Andhra Pradesh's demand of a special category, at a time the ruling Telegu Desam Party (TDP) in the southern state is unhappy over its ally partner BJP.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday afternoon tweeted to say that his party supports demands of people of Andhra Pradesh. Apart from special category status, the demands also include the "speedy completion of Polavaram project".
Rahul's tweet reads, "The Congress Party supports the just demands of the people of Andhra Pradesh for special category status and speedy completion of the Polavaram project. It's time for all parties to unite on this issue and support this call for justice".
Days ago, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu expressed his unhappiness over the allocations for the state in the Union budget 2018.
TDP is an ally partner of BJP in the NDA which runs the central government.
Naidu had even called a meeting with his party members to take a decision on the alliance.
With an eye on 2019 poll, the Congress is trying to align all opposition parties for a union.
The Shiv Sena has also announced that it will go solo in the next Lok Sabha election though will not leave its bigger ally BJP in Maharashtra at the present moment.
