Army kills 14 terrorists in Kashmir in September
Udhampur, Oct 4 (IBNS) The terrorist activities in Sept 2014 were overshadowed by the floods which struck Kashmir, affecting a large percentage of the population, particularly in Srinagar.
However, the month also saw a number of terrorist infiltration attempts and movement activity which were foiled by the vigilance of the Army, resulting in the elimination of 14 terrorists and apprehension of six more.
In the beginning of September, even as the rains were lashing Kashmir and causing large scale flooding of parts of South Kashmir, the Army eliminated three terrorists in an encounter at Hanjan Bala near Shopian on 2nd September.
Within a week, while Srinagar was reeling under the worst floods, four more terrorists were eliminated at Laribal near Rajwar and Pharkian on 9th and 10th September.
While the situation was stabilising in Srinagar and other flood affected parts of the Valley, two terrorists were eliminated at Machhal on 17th September quickly followed by four more terrorists eliminated at Tangdhar on 19th September. Thereafter, one more terrorist was eliminated at Lolab on 30th September, bringing the total number of terrorists eliminated during the month to 14 (fourteen).
During the same month, a number of local terrorists were apprehended with the help of SOG and Police. These included one member of LeT who was arrested on 17 September at Muqam, four Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists who were apprehended from Sopore on 22nd and 23rd September and one Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist who was arrested on 25th September at Kirpalpura.
The Army has appreciated the efforts of the SOG and Police who assisted in the elimination and the apprehension of these terrorists.
