Heavy rain stalls life in Chennai
Chennai, Nov 13 (IBNS) Life was thrown out of gear as train services were disrupted and schools and colleges remained closed in Chennai on Friday after heavy rains lashed the city for the fifth straight day, reports said.
The incessant rain that came down with gusto and continued through Thursday night submerged many roads and rail tracks resulting in disruption in surface transport services.
The MeT department has predicted Occasional heavy rain through the day and another spell of heavy showers next week following the formation of a new trough of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.
Railway sources said only five out of nine trains that were scheduled to leave the station were able to depart to their destinations, affecting thousands of passengers.
Schools and colleges are shut in the city following the Met department's forecast.Office-goers had a harrowing time on Friday mornin as they had to wade through knee-deep water in many areas.
48 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state since November 9, most of them from Cuddalore.
