At least 14 people arrested in Muzaffarpur violence
Muzaffarpur, Jan 19 (IBNS): As many as 14 people were arrested in connection with an incident in which three persons were burnt alive in the clashes that acquired communal undertones, media reports said.
The incident took place in Bihar's Muzaffarpur on Sunday as an irate mob set fire to houses and attacked Azizpur village - predominantly minority-dominated pocket located around 55 km from state capital Patna.
Police said the clash happened over the issue of a love affair between a girl and a 19-year-old Hindu boy from a village.
An FIR was also registered against an “unnamed mob of 5,000” people. A large number of policemen rushed to the village on Mondaymorning to ensure that there is no fresh violence.
Reports said the situation is tense but under control. Besides a large number of policemen, senior officers of the district are camping at the village.
The state government also announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the families of those killed in the attack.
