Adventurism will be costly for Pakistan: Jaitley
New Delhi, Oct 9 (IBNS) Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said the adventurism of Pakistan along the Jammu and Kashmir border by unprovoked firing and shelling will cost it dearly.
Amid continued violations of ceasefire by Pakistan, Jaitley said Pakistan has to stop this violation if they want peace or talks, and it will be very dear to them if they keep attacking us.
"For the past few days on the LoC, one after another we saw violations by Pakistan. They are shelling and firing from there. Civilians lives have been lost and and many were injured besides loss of property.
"India is a responsible country which does not attack first. Pakistan provokes and attacks but India has also a responsibility to protect its land and its people. So the Army and BSF are taking all measures and it will do what it takes to stop it," said Jaitley.
"Pakistan should understand that this type of attacks' response will be heavy on them. If they move forward with this adventurism it will be dear for Pakistan," said Jaitley.
"Firing is a cover for infiltration," said Jaitley adding that there is a connection between firing and infiltration. "It is also an effort by Pakistan to precipitate tension where none existed, " said Jaitley.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier has given a “free-hand” to country’s armed forces to respond appropriately and deal with border tension with Pakistan, media reported on Wednesday citing Government sources.
Reacting sharply to the opposition parties’ criticism that Prime Minister is being pre-occupied with upcoming elections in states like Maharashtra, rather that solving border tension, the Centre on Wednesday made it clear that Modi has given the forces “free hand” to deal with Pakistan crisis.
According to reports received, Government sources have said that PM gave broad guidelines on responding appropriately to Pakistan firing.
In the past few days, Pak forces resorted to repeated ceasefire violations, killing innocent civilians and Indian armed forces personnel, who guard the border, prompting the opposition parties attack the policy of Centre.
