Sonia, Mamata to share dais for joint press conference against demonetisation
New Delhi, Dec 27 (IBNS) : In what could signal Congress and Trinamool Congress stitching up anew a new relationship, Sonia Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee are set to hold a joint press conference along with few opposition leaders in the national capital on Tuesday in the background of the demonetisation scenario.
The press conference will follow an anti-demonetisation meeting, called by the Congress, for bringing together the opposition parties which have been fighting the move of the BJP-led Government at the centre.
Though the purpose of the meeting is set to be frustrated with several opposition parties deciding not to attend it, presumably because of individual equations and compulsion, the event will be significant because this may mark a new beginning for the Congress, which had a seat adjustment in the West Bengal assembly polls in May 2016, in its equation with the Trinamool Congress, West Bengal's ruling party and the arch rival of the Marxists.
CPI(M), the main force in the Left Front and arch rival of the TMC, has decided to stay away from the joint press conference.
The Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party are also unlikely to attend the event.
The press conference is likely to be attended by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Nationalist Congress Party’s DP Tripathi.
