PGTI members cheer on Indian Olympic hopefuls
Noida, Aug 5 (IBNS): As Indian golfers Anirban Lahiri, SSP Chawrasia and Aditi Ashok gear up to fly the tricolor at the Rio Olympics in a few days from now, they received support from the members of the golfing fraternity of India.
Huge support has been pouring in for the trio in the form of messages from fellow Indian professionals who are currently competing at the PGTI’s TAKE Solutions Classic in Noida.
PGTI members are sending their good wishes to the players by writing messages on the board which has been specifically put up for the purpose at the Noida Golf Course.
While writing his message, Chikkarangappa, the 2015 Rolex Ranking champion, who has grown up playing alongside Lahiri, commented, “It’s a great moment for us to see three of our top players going to Rio. Both Anirban and SSP have done India proud over the years with their exploits on the international stage. Aditi has also been in good form."
“A good performance by them at the Olympics will open a lot of opportunities for all the other Indian golfers. I’ve been in touch with Anirban. He’s getting better with each passing event this year. His confidence is up. I wish the three of them all the luck,” he added.
Shubhankar Sharma, the current Rolex Ranking leader, said, “All my best wishes are with Anirban, SSP and Aditi. Anirban and SSP have been idols for most Indian golfers of my generation. They’ve done great for India."
“Aditi is also playing fantastic golf at the moment. We’ve played a lot of junior golf together and I’m really excited about the prospect of seeing her at the Olympics. If any one of them can win a medal, it’ll be a huge boost for Indian golf,” he said.
Khalin Joshi, who like Anirban and Aditi, also hails from Bengaluru, added, “The Olympics are the biggest stage for any sportsperson. I feel, all three, Anirban, SSP and Aditi, will have a good shot at the medals. It’ll be terrific for Indian golf if each one of them including Aditi can come back with a medal. I wish them all the best. We’ll all be following their progress.”
