Pampore terror attack : Army tweets reveal a tussle with CRPF over who killed terrorists
New Delhi, June 28 (IBNS) Three tweets posted by the army on Saturday's terror attack on a CRPF party in Jammu and Kashmir's Pampore, revealed a tussle over who killed the two terrorists in retaliatory firing, media reports on Tuesday said.
Eight CRPF personnel were gunned down in the attack before the terrorists were killed.
In its first tweet, the army claimed its troops had killed the two terrorists who had opened fire on a bus in which a contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was travelling.
"Update on Pampore ops. Injured CRPF personnel evacuated to hospital. Two terrorists killed in joint op by security forces," the tweet by the army's Northern Command said.
The Indian Express quoted its sources as saying that the CRPF denied the credit to the army and conveyed to it that the entire ambush was neutralised by CRPF men.
Following this, the Army sent out another tweet, calling the terrorist killings a “joint operation”. "Update on Pampore ops. Injured CRPF personnel evacuated to hospital. T,"wo terrorists killed in joint op by security forces," the tweet said.i
But the CRPF again objected to it and the army sent out a final tweet giving full credit to the CRPF. "Update on Pampore Ops. Two terrorists killed by CRPF in retaliatory action. Earlier tweet stands corrected."
The Indian Express quoted CRPF sources as claiming that it was an attempt by the army to claim credit in an operation in which it was not involved, Army sources said it was an error as an Army operation was going on in Uri.
CRPF Director General K Durga Prasad told reporters on Monday that army's 51 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) unit reached the spot after the incident got over.
