Media can play role in creating awareness about climate change: PM Modi
Chennai, Nov 6 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said media can play a role to create an awareness about the global climate change, reports said.
Modi was speaking at an event by a Tamil daily 'Daily Thanthi' in Chennai.
Modi, who is presently in Tamil Nadu, said editorial freedom "must be used wisely".
Regarding the climate change, the PM said: "The climate change is a challenge for each one of us."
Modi even urged the media houses to devote some time on the issue of climate change. He said the newspapers should write one sentence per day about the issue.
"It will increase the strength of the publication itself" the PM added.
According to reports, Modi, who reached Chennai on Monday, will also attend an event at the Centenary Hall of Madras University and later the marriage of senior IAS officer T V Somanathan's daughter.
Media reports quoted a senior police officer as saying, "Under the supervision of city Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan, five Additional Commissioners, six Joint Commissioners, 43 Deputy Commissioners and 80 Assistant Commissioners are making security arrangements with a round-the-clock vigil."
The officer added that the area around Madras University has been cordoned off and traffic have been diverted.
