Lalit Modi issue adjourns Rajya Sabha as Parliament's monsoon session gets to a stormy start
New Delhi, Jul 21 (IBNS) The Lalit Modi issue forced adjournment in the Rajya Sabha as the monsoon session of Parliament began on Tuesday with the opposition Congress training its gun at the Narendra Modi government for alleged scams and favouritism.
As expected,the opposition, led by the 44-member Congress raised the issue just at the start of the session even though Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the the government is ready for discussions.
After obiturary references were made in both houses of Parliament, Congress leader Anand Sharma said : " "All Modi's promises over transparency and accountability are being questioned."
" A minister told UK government to sanction Lalit Modi's travel document's over some humanitarian grounds," he said in a reference to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who has been caught in a controversy over helping out the disgraced former IPL boss, accused of money laundering and foreign exchange rules violation.
As the Modi issue continued to rock the Rajya Sabha the house was adjourned till 12 pm. The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after obituary references.
