Four dead, several feared trapped after landslide in Maharashtras Raigad
Mumbai/UNI: Four people died and several families feared to be trapped in Khalapur village after the incident of landslide occurred late night at Raigad district in Maharashtra due to heavy rains, source said on Thursday.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with his ministerial colleagues, reached the affected village by helicopter this morning and monitored the rescue operations carried out by the NDRF and local administration.
The Maharashtra government has declared a holiday for all schools on Thursday in Mumbai.
Raigad police control room said that rescue operations are still on since 45 houses are buried under the debris after the landslide.
Raigad police said 35 people have been rescued so far and admitted to nearby hospitals in Raigad, but many more are still feared to be trapped under debris.
