Curfew in Kashmir enters 42nd day, normal life remains paralysed
Srinagar, Aug 20 (IBNS) : Curfew and restrictions continued in Kashmir for the 42nd day on Friday with 68 civilians and two cops being killed since July eight and the separatist groups extending the strike till August 25.
According to reports, authorities have imposed strict restrictions in all ten districts to thwart the Hurriyat-sponsored protest march from being taken out.
Large number of security personnel are patrolling the roads, not allowing anybody to take to the street.
Normal life has remained paralysed in the Valley due to street protests since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in anencounter with the security forces South Kashmir on July eight.
The historic Jamai Masjid has been under siege since then as authorities are not allowing prayers, which the clerics have condemned.
A senior police official in Srinagar told IBNS, “we are trying to maintain maximum restraint during the protests and we do not want any fatalities while dealing with stone pelting.”
"We have received strict instructions from higher authorities to minimise human causality during clashes.
Authorities have also suspended all mobile network in the valley to stop spread of rumours. However, BSNL post paid mobile service is working.
Th one month long ban on mobile and internet services has affected private mobile companies badly.
Rail Services have remained suspended since Wani's death, while schools are badly affected because of curfew and protests.
Calling a statewide shtudown till August 25 the Kashmiri separatist groups have appealed to the people to follow the programme strictly.
