Congress attacks PM Modi for accepting Pak visit offer
New Delhi, Jul 11 (IBNS) The opposition Congress on Saturday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accepting his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif's invitation to visit Islamabad describing it as a "regrettable" act on his part at a time when two Indian security personnel were killed in cross-border Pak attack.
"It is extremely regrettable that on July 8-9, when our two brave security personnel were martyred, Prime Minister Modi was shaking hands with Nawaz Sharif in Ufa. Even after these two brave soldiers were martyred, the Prime Minister expressed no condolence or message for them," Congress leader Ajoy Kumar told reporters.
"One one hand brave soldiers are dying and on the other hand, the Prime Minister has accepted Nawaz Sharif's invitation to visit Islamabad without taking the nation into confidence. It is very sad. The Congress party wants to ask the Prime Minister when the sacrifices of our brave soldiers will end?" he said.
One jawan was killed in the ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops on July 5 while a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was killed in Baramulla on July 9.
On the sidelines of SCO summit in Ufa, Russia, PM Modi met Nawaz Sharif and the meeting produced some breakthrough results, including a decision to set up military-to-military contact between the two countries and Modi's first-ever visit to Pakistan for a SAARC summit.
