Centre announces list of 98 smart cities
New Delhi, Aug 27 (IBNS): The Central government on Thursday unveiled its nominations of 98 smart cities in India under the flagship scheme.
Announcing the names, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said, "The central government proposes to give financial support to Mission to the extent of Rs. 48,000 crores over 5 years."
"13 crore population across 98 cities which is 35% of urban population will be covered under SmartCity Mission," he said.
Several capital cities like Bengaluru and Kolkata have not been nominated for the mission.
Naidu also tweeted: "Happy 2 release names of 98 Smart City nominees tht were chosen by d States nd UTs after d first stage of competition."
Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have maximum number of nominations for the mission.
