Julian Assange to host a show on RT
London, Jan 26 (IBNS): Editor in chief and founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange is all set to host a talk show on an English-language Russian television channel accused of spreading anti-U.S. propaganda.
To be aired by Russian Today, popularly known as RT, “the program will focus on his favorite topic: controversy”.
The show, believed to be the most awaited news series of this year, will feature ten “iconoclasts, visionaries and power insiders”. These will be those people with whom Assange can identify with, for he is a controversial figure himself.
According to a report on the official website of the global multilingual channel, the show will be filmed at the very location that the 40-year old internet entrepreneur has been under house arrest for the last year and a half.
Besides, the first episode will be shot just a week before Assange's Supreme Court hearing in the United Kingdom (UK).
In 2010, a European Arrest Warrant was issued for Assange in response to a Swedish police request for questioning in relation to a sexual assault investigation. Later in the previous year, the High Court certified that his case raised a point of law of general “public importance” that ought to be considered by the Supreme Court. Since then, he has been on conditional bail for 414 days.
The report also quoted RT news executive Nikolay Bogachikhin, who ‘held talks with Assange to secure the show, as saying that during the talk, Julian was very calm and relaxed about it all, which can’t be expected from someone who’s been under house arrest for more than 400 days, adding that he was very full of ideas, some of them born as they talked, so the show will be a very hard-hitting one.
Other details regarding the episodes and guests are secret as of now.
